Exploring the LDV T60 MAX Plus: Workhorse Meets Weekend Warrior
Share
The LDV T60 MAX Plus is the latest addition to LDV’s ute line-up in New Zealand, blending power, practicality, and comfort. Designed for Kiwis who need a capable vehicle for work and play, it’s a ute that promises versatility on both weekdays and weekends. But how does it stack up for 4WD enthusiasts and overlanders? Let’s dig in.
Yesterday, we spent the day with LDV New Zealand to crawl over their updated LDV T60 Max Plus. With a few updates, additions, and talk of a new warranty, we were all ears.
Power and Capability
At the heart of the T60 MAX Plus is a Bi-turbo 2000cc diesel Euro V engine, delivering an impressive 160kW of power and 500Nm of torque. These numbers position it among the more powerful utes in its class, with enough grunt for towing up to three-tonnes braked. Paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and four-wheel-drive capability, this setup is engineered for both heavy-duty tasks and off-road adventures, according to LDV.
Keep in mind, these power and torque figures are produced with a smaller 2000cc engine, meaning overall cylinder pressures would be higher than a larger engine producing the same power and torque on less boost pressure. When we checked the T60 Max Traverse, we saw boost pressures of around 22psi.
Practical Design
Utility is a strong suit for the T60 MAX Plus. The ute bed features a spray-in tub liner from the factory (no need to add this after purchase), an integrated step, and four tie-down points, making it easy to secure gear or tools. The tailgate assist feature ensures convenient access, while the cargo tailgate lock adds an extra layer of security for your load.
On the tech side, it comes equipped with a 360-degree panoramic camera and front and rear parking sensors. These features could be particularly useful when navigating tight spaces on a campsite or backing into a tricky driveway.
Interior Comfort and Features
Stepping inside, the T60 MAX Plus balances practicality with comfort. Heated, leather-trimmed seats with six-way electronic adjustment offer a touch of luxury, especially during colder months. The dual 12.3” displays house both infotainment and key driver information, with connectivity options including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and even a wireless charging pad. Compared with other makes at a similar price point, the cabin does feel like a very nice place to be.
For overlanders, having multiple USB ports and a well-organised dash can make all the difference. The driver-oriented design ensures that controls are within easy reach, keeping the focus on the road ahead.
Safety and Peace of Mind
Safety technology includes Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Autonomous Emergency Braking — features that provide added confidence whether you’re cruising the open road or navigating the unexpected. Combined with a newly-announced seven-year warranty, roadside assistance, and Warrant of Fitness checks, the T60 MAX Plus aims to offer peace of mind for its owners.
Is It Built for Adventure?
While the T60 MAX Plus clearly ticks boxes for versatility and comfort, how well does it cater to the overland and four-wheel drive crowd? The fundamentals — a capable powertrain, durable bed design, and practical features make it a contender on paper. However, seasoned 4WD enthusiasts might look closely at specifics like ground clearance, approach and departure angles, and the availability of aftermarket modifications being the main hurdle. These factors often determine whether a ute is ready to tackle truly challenging terrain or more suited to light off-road duties. This weekend, we're putting the T60 Max Traverse to the test off-road, so we'll keep you posted on that front.
The LDV T60 MAX Plus brings a lot to the table for those seeking a multi-purpose ute. Its balance of power, comfort, and practicality makes it a solid choice for drivers who need a vehicle that can switch seamlessly between work duties and weekend escapes. For overlanders and 4WD enthusiasts, it’s a vehicle worth considering, though its suitability for hardcore off-roading may depend on individual needs and expectations.
With deliveries starting in early 2025, the T60 MAX Plus is set to make an impression. Whether it’s a game-changer for your next adventure will ultimately come down to how well it fits your lifestyle and how you plan to use it — great option for the hardworking Kiwi.
